Aluminum
With superior performances such as light mass, good thermal and electric conductivity, machinability, and compoundability to a high-strength and corrosion-resistant alloys, aluminum is the most widely used metal among non-ferrous metals. Aluminums is used in great quantity as structural materials, beverage cans and other packaging materials, power transmission lines, daily necessities, machinery and equipment, almost everywhere. Aluminum industry is now the largest electrochemical industry in the world. Its yield is only second to steel, and stands first on the list of various non-ferrous metals.

Under the background of energy shortage and price rise in recent years, the use of aluminum in automotive and rail vehicles increased markedly with the aim to reduce the mass of vehicle body in order to save fuel. In addition, all-aluminum vehicle and aluminum-air battery powered new electric cars are being developed,

Aluminum products are main structural material of aircrafts, generally accounting for 50 percent to 80 percent, and more than 70 percent for civilian aircrafts. It can be said that aluminum alloy will remain the primary structural material of aircrafts for foreseeable future. At the same time, high-strength and high-toughness alloy 2224, 7055, etc. as well as new alloys such as Al-Ti and Al-Li, and rapid solidification, heat-resistant aluminum alloy will all be put into application as new structural materials in aeronautic and aerospace industry. For military aircraft, the aluminum is also an important structural material. So are for missiles and rockets.

In nowadays when energy shortage increases in the world, aluminum alloy fuel is an ideal new energy, which, actually, is a chemical battery with aluminum alloy plate as cathode, and air as anode. When the positive and negative electrodes are connected, aluminum alloy will be converted into electricity in electrolyte. With the advantages of non-pollution and safe storage and transportation, aluminum alloy fuel can be not only used as motor fuel, but used for lighting, audio equipment, television, outdoor life or operating equipment with a wide range of uses.

Located in the Aluminum Industry Park, Dongjiahe town, Yaozhou district, Tongchuan city, Shaanxi province, the Shaanxi Tongchuan Aluminum Industry Co., Ltd., under the management of Shaanxi Non-ferrous Metal Holding Group Ltd., is the only one large enterprise engaged in the smelting and production of aluminum. In November 2007, its 160,000t electrolytic aluminum environmental control and technical renovation project was completed and put into operation, which adopted 240kA production-scale prebaked cells with four terminals, 32 anodes, cradle type shell, computerized mid-point style laying-off, dry cleaning, and dense-phase conveyance, and was design optimized in thermal balance, stability of magnetic fluid, and stress in cell shell.

At the present, Shaanxi Tongchuan Aluminum Industry Co., Ltd has an annual production of electrolytic aluminum 250,000 tons, aluminum electrical pole 8000 tons, aluminum conductor 3000 tons, aluminum-magnesium alloy rod 2000 tons, aluminum extruded sections 400 tons, aluminum bus 2000 tons, and with an installed generator capacity of 50000kW.
